ABOUT THE VILLAGE
Located on the Upper Hunter River at an elevation of 430 meters, Moonan Flat and nearby Moonan Brook are part of Australian history. Located at the base of the Barrington Tops National Park and Fossickers Way, the creeks, brooks and rivers have played a strong part in the development of the area. Gold was found in 1858 and the region grew with prospectors camping along the creek banks. At is peak, the area had 3 registered pubs. The Moonan Flat Pub (Victoria Hotel) was established in 1897. Today the Moonan Flat Village has a population of just under 200.
